can you recommend a good standalone player?

my standalone dvd player is starting to act funny playing certain movies so I think its time to replace it. what Im looking for is basically something that plays dvdr -/+, dual layer disc and something that can play divx/xvid & dvd-mp3 disc. Can anyone recommend a good standalone player that can support what I asked for?

Well, if you started by telling the rest of us where you live (country is usually enough!) maybe someone in your neighbourhood has some recommendations. The DVD player market is rather local.

well I live in usa (new york to be exact)

Ive been searching around and been hearing alot about a Portland PVD-1000 player. I know when checking in the dvd player section it says that it plays divx but when reading user comments some people dont know how. I know its hard to get but I manage to find it anyways can this player play divx/xvid & dvd-mp3 files?

ok I picked up the portland pvd-1000 only to find out that it doesnt play divx files. if this does plays divx can anyone tell me how? otherwise can anyone still recommend a divx player?

get yourself the Philips DP642. It plays everything including DIVX. Price range from $55-65
