I'm a registered user of DVD2ONE,I think I bought it the day it came out. It was the first DVD transcode program. Save your money. This is no improvement. First it no longer supports Windows 98 or ME. It still doesn't change the ifo file to reflect the audio streams you actually saved. It still gives you no control over subtitle streams. It still gives you no control over bitrate allocation. It still has no preview window. It seems no faster.
I resent being asked to pay again for shareware I've already paid for. When I bought it they didn't say free upgrades were limited to version 1.xx. I'll keep using version 152 when I use DVD2ONE. It does have a cute new XP interface.

  2. Thanks for the heads up. I agree regarding the software and having to pay for it again! I am glad that I read this, you saved me $$ and I thank you for that. DVD shrink does the same and it's free, right?

I like DVD2One and still use my old DVD2One Ver.1.1.3 for final processing. However i shall not bother with this new version as it has yet to finally add such VITAL features as:

#1-Ability to remove and or resize any extras.
#2-Putting more than one dvd to a disc with menus to both intact.

DVDShrink handles #1 for me nicely and its FREE and DVDRemakePro does #2. Then i use my DVD2One for final resizing as i've heard it gives slightly better quality than resizing with shrink.

Only way i'd get the new version is if i hear from others that it has better than average quality encodeing for compression.Example:Being able to put two 2-hour movies to 1 disc with menus to both intact, and still retaining decent quality dispite high compression.

downloaded the trial version last night, nice that they allow you to do full processes on the trial version. As for the speed it does seem alot faster than my old ver.1.1.3,only took 14 minutes to downsize a movie to half its size(4470-to-2470) useing highest quality compression option. Have yet to view what i resized to see if it came out looking decent though.

Any other thoughts by other users on this? Thus far it seems like DVD2One was only given a spiffy new look and is pretty much the same program.

  4. upgrade to 1.52,and be happy.
    2.00 is a f*cking joke,its slower,and a lot more problematic,and as for paying again,pffff yeh right.

  5. Version 2.0.0 is still very buggy as I also reported under "comments" for this program. Mainly the burning part is just a joke. Stay with 1.5.2.

-RW discs are written with packet writing. Explorer or players can't detect those discs w/o a special driver for packet writing. DVDDecrypter reads them back OK. Also burnt an image created by D2O V2 with Decrypter for comparison and that worked OK.

Crashed a couple of times trying to burn regular DVD-R.
No option to adjust burn speed.

Conversion / transcoding is slower than in 1.5.2.

I just hope that they would implement an option to use either of the freeware burning options DVDDecrypter or ImgBurn which are both rock solid (thanks LUK!).

I was and I'm very happy with 1.5.2 but stay away from 2.0.0 for now.

Downsized a DVD from 4470GB to 2235GB(half size) useing the best quality options. 2.0 did it in about 14minutes and the end result was decent.

Though i've never tried such a thing with my older DVD2One ver. so i dunno if its quality is any better.

So no other users here have bothered with it? I guess not....

Recently joined together 3 disc to 1- DVD-R. I resized twice once with my trusty older DVD2One ver.1.1.3, and then a second time with DVD2One 2.0. I used the "highest" quality options for 2.0.

2.0 took a little over twice as long to process and the end result was only slightly better in some areas than the other. Such as slightly less blockiness in some scenes. Overall NOT worth bothering to make the switch, pay for, and use.

I lost my serial to DVD2ONE a while back when a HDD failed on me.

I wasn't working at the time and didn't re-buy it and have used DVDShrink since and I am happy with it.

There was a time where DVD2ONE was the better if not best option but DVDShrink finally caught up quality wise.

At least that is my opinion.

I use a combination of both: DVDshrink to remove/resize extras, ads and stuff, and DVD2One to do the final resizeing.

I liked DVDShrink as you can distribute the compression throughout the DVD when doing a complete DVD backup 8)

Yeah its pretty great. I always use it first to take out/resize the extra stuff and remove needless soundtracks&subtitles.

But i've heard on various places that DVD2One just gives a slightly better end result. So i'll just leave the main movie untouched with no compression in shrink, and do the final resize with DVD2One.

I also do that. Works great.
