(some lousy reviews though... make sure you back up your copy of 1.4.2 before you upgrade, it seems we need to pay a new licence fee)

  2. I have to agree with some of the comments. The user interface, while streamlined, is less intuitive and asks you to name a destination folder twice. That would be a minor irritation if the application actually worked. I can't get past the scanning of the Video_TS folder without it crashing. I can compress the same folder with version 1.4.2 with no problem. It would be nice to take advantage of multiple processor support...

And yes, they have misrepresented the "free upgrade" policy. Originally they did not say, free upgrades for all 1.x versions only. They implied buy it once and get free upgrades/ Now, of course they say free upgrades for all 2.x versions only. Unless they change their minds again.

I thought their policy was free upgrades for your version. Version 1 had free upgrades until version 2 came out ....

  4. I tried using it again with a different DVD (also ripped with MTR). This time DVD2oneX2 worked as expected; so perhaps there was a problem with the previous VIDEO_TS folder I was using. The compression didn't seem to have taken any less time than the previous (non dual processor aware )version. I'll try to compress the same disc again with the earlier version and compare the time.

It's all very pretty, but does it actually produce better results? The description made no mention of whether it makes better pictures or not. If not, I see no reason to upgrade.

(If they ever get the kinks worked out of the bumps that get introduced into dissolves and fades, then I might think differently.)

The application crashes every time I try to launch it. I am running osx 10.3.9.
    Anyone else have this problem?

I can't see anything about improved quality. The only bit that caught my eye was integrated burning. We'll see if that works or not

Reminds me ... there is some discussion over on the MTR forums at the moment about an upcoming ripping/compressing/burning script which uses MTR, DVD2OneX/DVDRemaster, and Toast with NO user intervention. There is already a beta.

  8. I tried the same VIDEO_TS folder with version 1.4.2 of the app and it took approximately 12 minutes longer to compress. So the dual procesor aware feature is for real. I've never tried Toast 7's compression; so maybe I'll give it a try.

  9. Toast 7 took 15 minutes longer than version 1.4.2 of DVD2OneX.

    To summarize:
    DVD2OneX2 - 22 minutes
    DVD2OneX - 34 minutes
    Toast 7 - 45 minutes

These times are on a Dual 1Ghz Mac running 10.4.2. The Video-TS folder was 7.8G. I was wearing a t-shirt and shorts. My hair was not combed, but I did clean my glasses. Both of my cats were asleep on the couch during these trials.

  11. I refuse to upgrade until it can be used with dogs as well as cats...

  12. A question for anyone who upgraded, was it worth it.

Not Really. There are a couple of things that are cool and new but I'm not that impressed. The interface is better on the old version.

You're not alone, Stan. I can't get the fool thing to do anything
    under 10.3.9 on my MDD G4 867DP.

    No, I haven't a solution besides using 1.4.2.

  15. For those still on Panther read the following from the developers website:

    Another try ...
It turned out that we still used 1 method that is not available in OS-X 10.3. We now changed this into another method, so the 10.3 specific build of DVD2oneX V2 should now also work on 10.3.9.

    Special build DVD2oneX V2 for OS-X 10.3

The new version of DVD2oneX V2 would not startup on OS-X 10.3. After examination it turns out that this is caused by an updated C library that is used by gcc 4.0, which is used by default by the latest version of Xcode. We have now made a special new build using gcc 3.3 to solve this problem and this version should work on OS-X 10.3 (it did on our testmachine using 10.3.0). You can find it in the download section.

The build for Panther is on their website.
What exactly is rotten in Denmark?
