7-8 minutes.
I am confused by something really simple.
With the right driv, firmware and decent appropriate media how long in minutes + seconds should it take to burn a 4.2GB DVD at 8xspeed?
7-8 minutes.

So What is it actually 8x?
with Cds we knew what time was baseline and so 8x
with DVDs not so it appears

1X- one hour of video (at a bitrate that will fill the disk- since a disk will also hold any length of video up to 8 hours or more if the bit rate is lowered)- burn time about 1 hour.
2X- burn time about 1/2 hour (or twice as fast as 1X)
4X- burn time about 15 minutes (1/2 as long as 2X)
8X- burn time about 7-8 minutes (1/2 as long as 4X)

Single Layer(4.7GB) write speeds
1x (CLV) = about 58 minutes
2x (CLV) = about 29 minutes
2.4x (CLV) = about 24 minutes
4x (CLV) = about 14.5 minutes
6x (CLV/ZCLV) = about 10-12 minutes
8x (PCAV/ZCLV) = about 8-10 minutes
12x (PCAV/ZCLV) = about 6.5-7.5 minutes
16x (CAV/ZCLV) = about 6-7 minutes
Dual/Double Layer(8.5GB) write speeds
1x CLV = about 105 minutes
2.4x CLV = about 44 minutes
4x CLV = about 27 minutes
If in doubt, Google it.
honestly though, even if your media is rated at 8x speed, id still advise against burning at that speed...i burn all my stuff at 4x, if you go much higher than that it may cause problems with some dvd players.....if your burning on a 16x recorder with 16x media though, 8x should be fine![]()
