  1. Hi, i recently started to convert my dvdrip videos into KVCD in order to play it in my standalone dvd player.

The problem is that when I play the kvcd in the dvd player, the TV shows it "wrong" it looks like it's stretched vertically.
So i use the remote to go to the system menu, and I try to change the Aspect Ratio to 16:9 but nothing happens, the movie remains the same...

So I thought the problem was while I was converting the avi file to kvcd...
I usually set my aspect ratio in the 16:9 in TMPGEnc.
Just for curiosity, when I put the KVCD into my cdrom drive, and open it with Windvd, the aspect ratio is wrong just like on the TV.... But the thing is that in Windvd I can correct the aspect ratio, but on the standalone dvd player i can't...

    So can anyone help me?

you are prolly changing a 4:3 to 16:9 in tmpg.. you even said it yourself.. keep it 4:3 if its a standard or full screen and 16:9 if its a wide screen movie..

im refering to in tmpg.. not on stand alone

  3. All VCD is 4:3. SVCD is usually 4:3, but can be 16:9, but as I understand it, most players don't support 16:9 SVCDs (mine does). I have no idea what a KVCD is, but if it's some kind of out-of-spec VCD, I still think you'd be better off encoding for 4:3.

Use an in-spec matrix, not KVCD. Or accept that you have to make even more compromises to use it.

  5. well, the dvd rip i'm encoding is in 16:9 ratio widescreen, that's why before encoding in TMPGEnc i set it to 16:9
The output file comes out OK, with the right aspect ratio, but after I burn it, and play the CD as if it's a VCD, the aspect ratio is just wrong (stretched vertically)

So i don't know if the problem is while encoding or while burning the vcd...

Btw, KVCD is just a VCD but holds a whole movie in a CD. It's compressed.

VCD is 4:3 only, so you have to convert from 16:9 to 4:3, and add borders top and bottom to letterbox it.

I know what KVCD is, and it is not spec compliant. It is just an out of spec compression matrix to try to encode at very low bitrates with some measure of quality (how that quality is measured is beyond me - all VCD is average at best, and KVCD isn't the best)

How should I convert the video from 16:9 to 4:3 and add borers top and bottom to letterbox it?
    Is it with TMPGEnc?
