    Hi all,
I just received a paypal debit card in the mail and I don't know whether I should activate it or not. Does anyone know if the limit is what I have on my paypal account or will it let me take out money but in return start charging the credit card I have on file? Will I get monthly statements? (As far as I understand, I won't unless I pay $10.) And most importantly, will I be bombarded with offers from paypal's associates? I don't want any more junk mail coming.

    Thanks
    Slimmx

Is it just me, or are these questions you should be looking through PayPal's FAQ for, or phoning their customer service dept ?
    If in doubt, Google it.

Paypal is not a bank. It is not part of FDIC. Paypal is part of eBay, and they are known to confiscate accounts for no reason (or a very illegitimate reason), and not give it back for longer periods of time.

Want my advice? Withdraw your money every time it exceeds $25. Put it in a real bank account, and Paypal can go to hell. Cut that debit card up and put it in the trash.

As far as I'm concerned, Paypal is a shady middleman to help you get the money. You certainly don't want to trust them with being custodian of it.

I read the FAQ but I wanted to know if other ppl use the debit card and whether they're happy with it or not.

You took the words out of my mouth. For what is worth, stay as far from paypal as you can.

I've had Paypal since 2000 and got a Paypal debit card in 2002.

If you don't want to leave your money in there, the debit card is the fastest way to get it out. Bank transfers take several days, but you can make an ATM withdrawal instantly.

I use mine to pay for everything. When I don't have people paying me through Paypal, I transfer money IN from my checking account a hundred or two at a time so I can keep using the card. The 1.5% rebate adds up, slowly, and makes up for their high payment receipt fees.

In hundreds of payments and thousands of debit transactions I have never had a problem. The one time I disputed a credit card charge, it went through no problem, in about the same time it would have taken any other credit card company. Despite not being a bank, credit charge transactions are still ruled by Mastercard rules.

I also volunteer for a fairly large owners club that takes Paypal payments for both dues and merchandise, and I'm one of three people who operate the Paypal account. In what has to be tens of thousands of transactions, they have only had two chargebacks, both of which were legitimate, and the account has never had a problem otherwise or been locked or messed with by Paypal. The money usually gets transferred out when it exceeds $1000.
