I have been trying to convert a avi from NTSC to Pal using TMPGEnc Xpress, however when i get about 50% i am given an error, if i load the avi into gspot i am told that the audio codec is not installed could this cause the error?

Also i cant seem to find the audio codec to d/l, gspot says the name of codec is; ac3 (0x2000) "Dolby Laboratories, Inc" and the Audio Media is; WAVE_FORMAT_AC3 (0x2000) and last the audio codec; AC3Filter

So do i only need to d/l AC3 Filter?

I would use VirtualDub for all kind of avi files, TmpgEnc is good for working with mpg files. For avis with ace sound i use a special ac3 version of Virtualdub. Maybe newer version of virtualdub has full ac3 support, but i used the 1.4.8 version. I don't know if links are allowed here:

    http://www.vbc2000.it/public/mkportal/index.php?ind=downloads&op=download_file&ide=26&...ub_148_AC3.zip

If not, then moderator should delete the link, so u can google for "virtualdub ac3 1.4.8"

Thanks again n8mare that did the job only prob is i am still getting the error with a few of the avi's i am trying to convert, when i load them into gspot it says that codecs are install and that there are no errors, same in virtualdub if i select scan for video stream errors it comes up with nothing,

Does anyone have an idea as to what could keep causing the error?

Should I ask exactly what error you are given?
If you ar using Tmpgenc, it's a common thing that it wont work with ac3 audio files.

Well, look. NTSC to PAL conversion is a headache, but can be done, if necessary. If you live at a PAL region, you probably don't need.

Anyway, Tmpgenc is not the proper tool, Xpress or not, but VirtualDub(Mod), as n8mare said.

If you type ntsc to pal in the start page of the web, you will go to:
    https://www.videohelp.com/guides.php?howtoselect=4;41#4;41

There are several tutorials. The one that worked fine for me at once is the second one, from users.bigpond. You may want to take a look at it.

    Best regards.

  9. Well what I do is I have their AC3 plug-in so AC3 hasn't presented a problem. For MP3 audio and such as long as I have the codec installed,

I use Virtualdub and save the audio as a wave file and then in Xpress I add the video and then add the wave file as the audio, end of problems, sync problems too.

Open V-Dub, open the video. Then under the audio tab, choose Fullk Processing Mode. Then uder File tab choose save wave.

a couple of minutes later good audio ready to go. Really helps with VBR MP3 audio.

Also you might want to scan the video for errors. or extract the Video and the audio separate and then add to Xpress.

Good Luck, I like xpress for ease of use and good quality results.

  12. This method has worked well for me:

    http://www.johnisme.com/

IMHO it's easier and more reliable to do the framerate conversion as AVI, fix any sync problems, THEN convert to MPEG2. But there's more than one way to skin a cat. Good luck.
    Pull! Bang! Darn!

  13. At this point I would most likely give up, put it on a CD/DVD and wait a while for new/improved software to come out.

You have tried the TMPGEnc AC3 Plug-In? It is what I always use with that format audio.
