Recently, when I tried to open my scanner application, I got a message -- something like: "Error opening twain source. Unable to find twain.dll. Copy twain.dll from source disk to Windows."

Using Windows "search" function, I located "twain.dll" on the source disk (cd) and when I tried to copy it to the Windows folder I got a message: Do you want to replace the existing "twain.dll" file (stating the size and modified date of the "existing" twain.dll).

I said no and then, using several different alternative settings, tried to find the existing "twain.dll" file supposedly already in my system, using Windows "search" function. "Search" was unable to find it.

(By the way, "search" was set to locate system files and hidden files, too).

How come, when I try to copy "twain.dll" from source disk to my system, it finds an existing "twain.dll." Yet when I use search to try to find it there is nothing found and when I try to use the scanner software I'm told I need "twain.dll" in the Windows folder?

My USB connected scanner loses the TWAIN driver every time I unplug it. I just reinstall from the disc and it's fine. Never messed with the .dll. For more than you really want to know about TWAIN :
