I have a Canon Pixma IP5000 inkjet printer which came with software for printing to, among other things, discs - CDs & DVDs. So far, I've been printing to standard DVDs - with a non-printable inner circle size of 43mm in diameter.

I've today bought a pack of DVD-R's that are "hub-printable" - i.e. the continuous printable area is greater, leaving a non-printable section around the centre-hole of only 22mm in diameter.

It's at this point that I discovered that the Canon software restricts the adjustment of the inner circle by +/- 10mm. With the standard disc set to an inner circle size of 43mm - this wasn't enough! I had visions of either trying to return the opened pack of discs, or using them and living with a nice white ring around the middle.

So, I turned to VideoHelp and tried a search there. Unusually, no luck . I then did a Google search and, now that I know the solution, found the shamefully easy way to address this apparent issue.

I'm posting the info here, in case anyboy else from this site has the same issue with their Canon printer. The principle may even apply to others with printers of a different brand. I've included all the keywords I used when searching to try to make this post easier to find.

The Solution:

I was trying to adjust the inner circle size on the "Standard Disc" template: Outer Circle = 116mm, Inner Circle = 43mm. Max adjustment = +/- 10mm.

As I said, the solution is shamefully easy - create a new disc template, and set the dimensions there:

* File -> Select Paper -> Print Genre = CD Label Print
* New -> Set template name and inner / outer circle diameters.
* Click OK to save.

When you want to print on hub-printable discs, click File -> Select Paper and select the template you've just created. Yes, that easy...

You can even change the "paper" (template) for designs you've already created - it just changes the disc dimensions to what you've set in the template.

I hope this helps others, and saves them the 2-hour search I went on! For reference, I found the answer here.
