  1. I installed Nero a while ago, so I uninstalled my previous CD writing program, and it appears my DVD ROMs' drivers got uninstalled along with it, so now I can't burn anything or read anything. I tried going to websites to download the drivers, but I either found nothing or only updates. What can I do?

    Thanks in advance.

  2. You absolutely MUST give your computer specs first.

If you have XP, you could try using RESTORE.

  3. You can try uninstalling them through 'device manager' and reboot your computer.
That way, the computer will try to install them again.

  4. Operating System: Windows XP
    CPU Speed: Athlon XP1900+
    Harddrive space: 80 GB
    RAM Memory: 224 MB

What specs are you looking for? This is general stuff I got off my profile.

I tried using restore, but for some reason my last available restore point is from this Friday, November 4th, and that was a day after I uninstalled.

And thanks hrlslcbr, I'll try that right now.

  5. Ok I tried it, and my drives still don't work. I get this message under Device Status in Device Properties:

Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device.

And I click troubleshooter and nothing happens...

This article from MS may solve your problem. It can happen when you remove some burning programs. Applies to DVD burners also and other programs beside Easy CD creator. Also InCD from Nero can cause strange problems. I personally wouldn't install it.

EDIT: You likely won't find the DVD drivers, they are part of XP. If the MS fix doesn't work, you can use the Repair Console with the XP disc. The repair console is a little difficult to use, do a Google search for a guide.

Or do a re-install of XP, though with that you will loose any upgrades and may have to re-install most of your programs.

Search on google for the exact key. What you want to do is delete the Upper Filters and Lower Filters values out of the registry. It will be somewhere in:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l

Just search the error you're getting in Device Manager. It's a common problem when removing CD burneing software.

  8. Thanks Redwudz, I'll use that as my last resort.

Thevoelk, can you be more specific? When you said search the error message, did you mean search it on google or where?

And I have no clue how to access HKey. I think I stumbled on it once a long time ago when I was messing around with something else, but I have zero clue how to get there. Can you provide the steps please? Thanks.

Actually nvm, I clicked Redwudz link and it posted the RedEditor.exe thing.
