Hi like most people here im new to all this converting, burning etc.

Few questions - could someone kindly suggest which dvds are best suited for general burning, i use dvd santa to convert and burn and have been burning them onto dvd+r x16 but for some reason i have perfect film quality but no sound when playing it on my dvd player, when i try to play it on my x box or even in my pc it doesnt recognise there is a disk present. I then tried using a dvd+rw which works fine on my x box but will not work on my dvd player ( i know getting confused yet )
Ive now been advised to try using dvd-r which i have now ordered but would like a few suggestions.

one other thing some of the dvds i have managed to copy tend to have an annoying green line threw the bottom of the picture which does not appear when i play it on divx.

Any help would be hugely appreciated.

This is problem of dvdsanta, not of the disk.

You have read in the manuals of your player and x-box which disks they support, haven't you?

Now I am a bit confused to understand this sentence. You have a dvd, make a backup and the backup is displaying a green line at the bottom? Then you make from the dvd a divx and when you play it (PC or DVD Player?) you don't have the green line at the bottom?
Or, you have divx and it play without green line, and when you convert it to dvd with dvdsanta it has a green line at the bottom? If it is the last, dvdsanta is to blame.

Dvd+rw are suitable only for multiple backup purpose's
Dvd+r are only suitable for console disc backups
Dvd-r are general pupose for all dvd players .

Tdk will give better performance over the rest .

As for that green line , is this only within pc playback , if so , you have something , a program installed thats causing an issue .

Watch out for codec rip packs , there's a feature for matrox cards included , so if you dont have a matrox card , it should have been dissabled , by default , in the package its enabled , which is dumb , and stuffs peoples pcs up ... Too fix , uninstall , restart pc , reinstall , but this time make sure anything related to matrox cards is dissabled .

There may be other programs also causing such problems , though I'd say it's most normally associated with ripping issue's .

If its on the xbox ... dont do it , you will eventually bugger it , any dvd playback interference experienced on the xbox is due to one form or another of overheating , and playing dvd movies will cause this .

No audio on pc , you may need to install ac3_filter package .

No audio on dvd player :

This is a big pain , please try dvd-r first , but ...

There are 2 types of dvd players , those with only 2 audio outputs and those with 6 , I think , sub , sats and woofer .

Dvd-r is for the most part , is the most universal accepted material for all players .

If dvd player is later , 6 channels , you may need to check each one by taking either left or right audio cable and changing its connection to another of the audio outputs to locate the actual sound producing connection .

This is common , as most dvd's produced contain only 2 channel audio stream for main movie, which is a pain as not all use the same channels , I should know , I own 100+ dvd's .

All play with sound on my centrex (2 outputs) well , but when it comes to my xms888 and deawoo (6channels) , it drives me nutts dragging it out and swapping outputs .

Sometimes even a brand new dvd thats bought wont play in one unit for unknown reason , this is why I have 3 , 2 play avi formats such as divx , xvid , ect ...

Even when I setup the audio for my 6 channel units , then very next dvd I put in may require changing the cables again , a real pain ... why they dont get the house in order before releasing titles ... well only they know ... idiots , they really know how to confuse people ...

For the most part , people I know expected dvds to be like vhs tapes , slap them in and go , but they aren't like that ...

I hope this gives you a general run down of what too do .

Ps : Only burn faster than 4 , if you dont care about whats on the disc later ... 4 speed gives better "fixation" of whats written too the media .
