    Hi Folks,

I have a DC2000 video capture card with a breakout box that accepts Component video via three BNC input connectors (labelled Y, B-Y, and R-Y).

Now, I aslo have a DVD player with component outputs, but they're the RCA-style plugs, and they're labelled Y, Pb/Cb, and Pr/Cr.

Now, assuming that I had the right cables (BNC on one end, RCA adapter on the other), are these two devices compatible?

Would I be able to capture footage from my DVD player into my DC2000?

Or are these different formats of component video? I know the DC2000 is geared towards professional video equipment (BetaSP, etc...) and I know my DVD player is gear towards consumer-level equipment -- but I don't know if these two component standards are different.

And at the end of the day, I don't want to shell out for component BNC cables (with RCA adapters) unless I know it's going to work.

Thanks for any info you can provide!

    Keith.

Pro equipment often uses BNC rather than RCA. All you need are these:

Why would you want to capture from a DVD player? Just rip the DVD.

    So, the (Y, B-Y, R-Y) are the same as the (Y, Pb/Cb, Pr/Cr)?

For knowing which cables to connect to which, can I assume that:

    Y=Y
    B-Y = Pb/Cb
    R-Y = Pr/Cr

And to answer your question about why bother capturing from DVD:

If I rip the DVD, I'm left with a format that I'm unable to edit with within my DC2000 real-time environment. I can convert the ripped MPEG file into the DC2000 format, but this is not as quick as just capturing realtime from DVD into the DC2000 format.

    Research pointers:
The (Y, B-Y, R-Y) analog levels for the DC2000 were the same as used for Betacam VTR, Panasonic M2 VTR and other professional analog component equipment. Betacam will yield most results.

Next research Y, Pb, Pr in the consumer equipment context and note any differences if any.

Y, Cb, Cr (digital CCIR-601 based) is universal.
