O.K. I hope I'm not in the wrong place and I'm sorry if I am but here goes.

I have about 40 hours of analog video stored on my Toshiba DVR. I loaded super 8 video from the dark ages onto the hard drive. The DVR has a DVD burner, so I burn one 2 hour home movie onto a DVD disk.

How can I download the information into a program where I can edit the footage and then burn back to a DVD to watch in a home DVD palyer?

I am using an Hp Pavilion AMD 64 @2 GHz with 1 Gig memory and two optical drives, one of which is a burner.

There seems to be issues with editing programs working well with XP service pack 2. So is there a program that will do what I want and do it glitch free?

Please help, I've been to 4 different forums and nobody responds, help would be very much appreciated. Alternatively if anyone in the Carrollton area of Texas can help let me know at this point I'd pay cash. My wife thinks I'm an imbucile.

    have you tried any tools?

if it is a standard dvd use tmpgenc dvd author and select add dvd video and you can edit and reauthor. or read https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=224833 for more methods.

Thanks I'll give it a go, downloading now.

I had purchased Roxio 8 but good gosh it was a lot more than I needed. Since then I have tried to piece meal things together.
I backup movies all the time with Decrypter/Shrink/CopytoDVD no problems.

I tried Nero Recode, worked great but then it asked for a DIVX to DVD codec to burn back to DVD. I just wanted to see if it would work and I guess with the right codec it would have, but then I needed a author/reauthor program and I'm just not willing to research allt hat I need to to get all these programs working together.

I'm sure it's no biggie for those familiar with computers but as a Fireman my usual default procedure is to kick in doors and that is a little less subtle than what is required here.

So I'm hoping this is a good program, complete, but not too complete as in a rediculously complex program. maybe another time I'll be ready to move on but for now downloading, reauthoring and burning a finished product would be a breakthrough.

I"ve read your recommendations and it seems that you know what's going on, so thanks so much for responding I haven't had a lot of luck that way.

    Thanks again, Rocks

    I'll keep you posted

    Hey,

Got the video rolling, easy interface.

However no sound. When setting up the program gave notice that I needed a sound plug-in for AC-3 dolby. I'm assuming that's why I'm not hearing sound.

I guess thats something that I can dowmload from their site.

By the way I have this site saved in my favorites under Baldrick the great, thought you might like that.

    Thanks, Rocks

Install ac3_filters package too get sound .

I too use xp , the pro edition with sp2 , and here's my list of tools I use all the time .

    Gimp : menu backgrounds
Dvdauthorgui : basic dvd output with menu
    Besweet : Audio conversions
Ifoedit : dvd playback (check for menu error's)(needs ac3_filters)
Batchdemux : demuxs mpeg streams (audio and video)
    Virtualdub : fancy avisnyth menu's , conversions
Pgcedit : manipulation of dvd commands
Subtitleworkshop : creation or conversion of subtitles
Bbmpeg : aka avi2mpeg (used with virtualdub)
    Imagetools : easy dvd burning
Dvdshrink : incase project too big to fit media
Super : converts mov to compressed avi
Easyphototools : slideshow generation for dvds
vsoDivxToDVD : divx , even xvid to dvd
Vidchanger : handy manipulation for changing vob or cell id's
    Blender : animations , menu's for dvds
Mwsnap : for snapshots , some for dvd menu's
Rejig and Quenc : various processing

    Others :

    Mp4box , yamb , wink , wax , windv , vobedit , vobblanker , rempeg2 , pgcdemux , muxman , mpeg2cut .

Most work ok , some have limitations , so its a matter of using the tools , then when a limitation is found ... remmember it .

Be aware , that you may have programs installed that my cause issues .

Dvdathorgui , should be fine but I have struck one case where no files are outputted ... I think its time for that system to get a clean reinstall soon .

Should you need more help with any tools mentioned above or just editing in various ways , just pm me and I'll help you out there ...

The ac3 plugin for TDA is only if you want the audio to be encoded (not edited) in ac3 format. If you have it already as ac3 and don't hear the sound when play them on computer, then you need an ac3 decoder
I would suggest to demultiplex the vob files using dgindex to audio and video and to load them in Cuttermaran. BTW I don't know what kind of editing you want to do, Cuttermaran is great for cutting-joining.
