My PC graphics card has two output connectors: one VGA (for the monitor) and one S-VHS (to connect, for instance, to a TV set with the right S-VHS cable).

So my question is: how do I activate the S-VHS output, so that I can see any video file stored in the PC, or a DVD movie, in the TV set?

    Thanks in advance.

  2. Go into control panel, Display, Advanced, and change whatever options you want.

    Nope ...

The first thing you need too do is turn your pc off ... as you wont have twin view available .

You must then connect the tv output cable between your pc and the tv , then turn pc on .

Now right click on desktop , choose properties from menu that appears , go to settings .

Some cards such as the geforce Fx5200 have nview , dual screen setups , it is here you change options .

Just dont get fancy , or it will drive you nutts ... what I do is simply have say , what ever media player is playing , thats whats shown in full screen on tv output ... the family thought that was cool .

I tried desktop to both , but desktop looks like crap , pretty , but still crap ...

Of course , video cards being what they are , there's some differences between them , even between models from the same company .

For the best part , what is refered too as twin view , can only be properly accessed provided the tv was connected prior to pc being switched on .

Best read the manual , if you have it , or visit the company website to download it , if its still available ... site might also have relative information to its particular needs to setup properly .

Bjs is describing the Nvidia technique which can be very frustrating and obscure. Once I got mine working I never want to touch it again in fear of repeating the ordeal. But the hint to have the TV monitor connected and powered on first is crucial.

In the general sense, you are creating a Windows XP (or 98se) dual monitor configuration with the S-Video port as the second monitor.

Each card is different in details so you should first read your manual and online FAQ on dual monitor or S-Video setup.

Most cards will have dual monitor setups in menus behind "Display Properties-Advanced".
