I bought some DVD's of the Live Action Series of Spiderman and it seems to only play correctly on DVD players that are Without Progressive Scan (such as the RCA RC5215P DVD player). But when I play them on a Progressive Scan DVD player (such as the Pioneer DV-C302D), only half the screen displays on the TV. It is crystal clear but only half is shown, the other half of the screen is black. These were bought from a guy who had made Region 0 copies in Japan. Is there any software or something that I could use to burn another copy that would play on Progressive Scan DVD players?

    Thanks.

  2. Well, Progressive Scan DVD players are only useful if you have a Progressive Display. If you're trying to output 480p to a regular interlaced CRT TV, then that's the reason for your problems. Set that Progressive Scan player to output 480i instead. That is, turn off progressive scan.

Well you could always try running it through DVDShrink (uncompressed) and see what happens.

Thanks for the responses. I have tried hooking up my Pioneer DVD player to several different TV's (even old ones I had), but the picture still only shows half of the screen on those three DVD's.

I will give DVD Shrink a try.

    Thanks a lot.

Pioneer DVD players don't like video that has been "tricked out".

For instance some people will put SVCD on a DVD and just change the header info which makes the DVD player think the video is DVD compliant and not SVCD compliant. This fools some DVD players but not Pioneer. They will do wierd things such as playing the video half sized or quarter sized etc.

I'd rip the DVD to the computer and try to figure out what the resolution of it is etc.

I just realized I told everyone wrong. My Spiderman TV series DVD's actually plays a double screen shot of the show. The left side of the TV screen plays the show and the right side plays the show (side by side). It shows two screens instead of one full screen. It is very annoying. It even plays that way on my PC. It plays correctly on DVD players that are Without Progressive Scan (such as the RCA RC5215P DVD player). But it plays with two screens instead of one on my PC and on a Progressive Scan DVD player (such as the Pioneer DV-C302D).

Sorry for my incorrect before. Does anyone know what causes this and what could be done to correct it?

    Thanks.

Progressive scan is usually an option. What if you turn it off and play this disk ?

Do you have a progressive scan TV, or simply a standard CRT with component input ?
