Best 3540A Firmware? New!

So i got my 3540 Drive yesterday and installed it.

Its got 1.01 FW on there

I got MCC 003, 004, and 03RG 16x disks here that all recognize. Whats riplock?

Also should i just use my current firmware or upgrade and to what?

Riplock is where the firmware limits ripping speed. Liggy and Dee have riplock removed firmware. I use the official 1.03 and use a DVDRom for ripping (no riplock). Firmware releases just usually add to the media compatibility. You don't need to upgrade firmware unless you want riplock removed (Liggy and Dee's firmware) or increased media compatibility (official firmware).

Well how fast will the burner rip without riplock and with riplock

Also is there a difference? Maybe quality wise in ripping speeds?

Not sure how fast it rips, maybe 3x-5x limited, the max rip would be the drives rated speed minus the quality/condition of the disk being ripped and the program used to rip it. I never tried it. I doubt the quality would be affected, though the longer wait may be irritating without riplock removed.

my english is limited, I search firmware topic and read couple of it but stilll not clear. I have NEC3540A, It takes about 15 min to encode and 30 min to write, so total about 45 min to burn a DVD either from DVD to DVD or HD to DVD. I do not know how to speed up the process. Is it a must to upgrade the firmware in order to burn faster? also, to upgrade the firmware, do i just need to download it and follow the screen instruction?
