    I think im gonna cry!

    After all of this https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=283421

I now get an error when loading an AVI saying:

Could not open the video part of the file [file location, name etc].avi Only the audio part can be opened

Anybody tell me why and how i can fix it, before i neatly place a hand grenade with no pin in my tower?

Option> Environmental Settings> VFAPI plug-in> Directshow Multimedia File Reader; <----- right click on this and choose higher priority. Do this several times until it's at the top of the list. (Priority +1 or +2). Then try opening your avi again.

EDIT: I just read your thread. You sure you got all your codecs installed again?

Download Gspot. Use it to look at your avi. Gspot will tell you what codec is required and whether you have it installed or not.

Go to Tools on the left and then codecs.

You require the Xvid codec as gspot is telling you. You should have that one and Divx. And if in the future you get another avi file you can't play, use gspot again to figure out which new codec you need to install.
