I have a 52 minutes video ripped from a DVD. I was trying to make XVCD using a 700 MB CDR. When I used the bit rate calculator, I chose 80 minutes, and the calculated results were: Video - 1857 kb/s, and the audio was 224 kb/s. The resulting file from TmpgEnc was 781 mb. Usually if I was making a Compliant VCD, I would be able to fit a file this size on (1) 700 mb CDR using the over-burn option in Nero. But this time, Nero is saying that the file is too large to fit on (1) CD. I have made sure the over-burn option was turned on.

The question is when I am making the calculation, should I enter 74 minutes for a 700 minute CDR, or did I do something wrong?

I don't know why it does this but I had the same problem. I went into TMPGEnc and did a cut, I only chopped off a frame or 2, but I set it to Video CD (Non-Standard) when I did the cut. The resulting file was just about the same size as the original but burned without a glitch and room to spare in Nero. Anybody know why?

  3. An 80min CDR will hold 700MB of MODE1 data or 800MB of MODE2 data. x(S)VCD's are burnt in mode2 so there's no need to overburn. Question, how are you trying to burn the MPEG. You can't just drag & drop it and burn, if you're using Nero use Nero's VCD template to burn (see the Author section to the left).

A 781MB file will easily fit on a 800MB CDR.

I was using Nero's VCD template to burn, and I turned off the VCD compliant because I'm making XVCD. I have uninstall & reinstall with different versions of Nero, none of them will take the 781 MB mpeg file. I have another file, which is about 730 MB, now, Nero would burn this file. I just don't know, I guess I will have to lower the bit rate on the 781 mb file, and see if I can get the file size a little smaller.

Does anyone know what the problem was?

By the way, I am positive that I am using a 700 MB blank CDR.

Hey, Digifreak, I didn't understand what you did when I first read your post, when I came back & read it the second time, followed your step, I was able to get Nero to burn the CD. However, I didn't have to cut any frame, I just simply run it thru Tmepgenc's merge & cut. It shaved about 1 mb off the file, but Nero was able to read it correctly.

Thank you very much. You saved me from from pulling more hair off my head. I don't know why it is doing this, but I guess I don't care, as long as it can finish the job.

I think that the most accurate BITRATE CALCULATOR is DVTOOL. You can find it on this site.
