  1. Quick question
I use to mess around with ripping dvd's and what not a while back but got out of that game some time ago
About a year or two ago I tried to cut different scenes from all my favorite movies and then put them on 1 DVD.

The audio never matched up and I dumped the project

is there software out there now that has made it easier and make the audio match up????

    thanks in advance

Editing MPEG-2 is not easy. You have to do your cuts on a keyframe. Sync lose can be a problem. Some editors like MPEG-VCR work well, others also. Cuttermaran also works OK for a basic editor, but I dislike anything that uses the Net framework.

But, look around a little. The programs have improved a little, but you still need to follow the 'rules' when working with any highly compressed format, MPEG-2 included.

  3. MPEG-VCR is the best software I've ever used for cutting MPEG-2 or VOB files and I've never had any sync problems.

  5. thanks for the heads up
I was hoping the technology or area had advanced some in the last year or two, but doesn't seem that way

laspis 59- I downloaded the trial version of videoredo and toyed around with it for a bit.

I question for all of you though because I'm a little rusty. I'm assuming I still need to rip the DVD with dvd decrypter or something like that. I'm sure many of the dvd's have a lot more security now adays, is there a better program than others for ripping the dvd to vobs if I need to do that?

in the past i also used dvd2avi, but I'm hoping that I wont have to do that because I would like to just rip and then go directly to cutting out the scenes that I want. Can any of you confirm...

    thanks in advance

DVDFab Decrypter will rip most all of the newer DVDs. Works differently than DVD Decrypter, though. Not as much control. I still use Decrypter for most rips and burning. The Sony ARccOS system needs Fab though.

The technology hasn't changed because the DVD format hasn't changed.
