I've discovered that for replication there is a full dollar price difference between making a two DVD-5 production, or a one DVD-9 production. For a 1000 quantity, that means a full $1000 less..

I've been been providing my Replicator with DVD-5 Masters for replication. They informed me however, that for anything above DVD-5 that I would need to submit the master on DLT.

Can someone here either tell me about, or tell me where to go to read about DLT? I need to know what machine to buy, how much they cost (will the cost of the machine kill the savings in opting for DVD-9?), what the difference in the machines are, etc...

    thank you!

Digital Linear Tape, or DLT is a type of large media storage tape. There are several types of DLT - each type has a diferent capacity. I'd suggest you first find out which version of DLT you need.

Then you'll need the following: DLT drive and probably a SCSI controller card for your PC/Server and a few DLT tapes.

The drive will cost a bundle new, but you can find one used on eBay cheaper. The tapes are $20 -$40 each.

Ask your replicator what version of DLT they'd prefer. I'd guess DLT3 or DLT4
