    Does anyone have a suggestion?

    Basically, I just want to be able to capture video of what is happening on my desktop and save it to a video file.

    Freeware is preferred, but all suggestions welcome.

    Check out Camstudio in the tools section; it's free and makes AVI files, plus it has kind of a cool little bonus -- it'll turn your avi into a flash movie, which can cut down file size if that's an issue and you need to send a copy to somebody.
