    hi,

I've been using the VLC for afew months, with no problems.

However recently on any video file I play on it, the sound is terrible.

It sounds distored and very loud.

I've tried other versions, the same for them all.

    any ideas.

    Thanks.

  2. Since it has worked perfectly for you up until now, something has obviously
changed in your system. Have you recently installed new apps, codecs, etc?
Sounds like VLC isn't the problem.

I don't know about VLC, but some programs store their settings in places other than the 'Program Files'. Deleting the program and installing another version may not change those settings. Have you tried 'Reset All' in VLC?

It has pages of settings for audio, things like 'Goom effect', which I have no idea what it does. If you can't reset, adjust some of them. I suspect the problem is not in VLC, though. More likely something in Windows or other audio programs that have changed things around and the path VLC uses for audio is different now.

I know that this is of no help regarding VLC Media Player but have you tried Media Player Classic.I highly recommend it.
BTW you have most probably got a codec problem or if you have installed another media player also,it could be a conflict between the programs,as already mentioned by CBC.

Quick Edit:And I DO NOT recommend codec packs like K-Lite Codec pack ect...In my experience they screw everything up.Stear well clear of them.

thanks for the replys, I have updated my nvidia graphic card recently, so maybe it's so thing to do with that.

As for the k-lite codec pack, does anyone know of an easy way to now if you have all the codecs needed and how up to date they are?

    don't use codec packs !!
you can find all the (free)codecs you need at this site or other sites like doom.org

  7. I'm pretty sure that VLC doesn't really need any to work. Maybe grab FFDShow if you find some filetypes don't play. Definitely avoid the codec packs!
You should only install what you need & nothing more.

Yes, a program like Gspot or AVIcodec will tell you what codec your video file needs. They will also tell you what codecs you have installed. If you need to get rid of some problematic codecs, then DXman or Codec Sniper can do that.

Installing the whole codec pack will often cause you problems, but individual codecs from them are sometimes OK. Better to just look in 'Tools' <<<<< here for codecs and install only the ones you need.
