  1. Hi there! I'm looking for the perfect solution to archive all my DVs, but have unfortunately found none until now. I've tried the Divx 6.0 codec, but it was too sluggish and did not produce excellent results even at high bitrates(around 8000-10000kbps). While editing Divx videos with Ulead Video Studio, my computer had even stopped responding. 3ivx too was not efficient in encoding high-quality videos.
    So, I decided to try MPEG. While being able to encode at a satisfactory speed, the colour of the output video doesn't seem too right. Video editing software like Virtual Dub also fail to edit MPEG videos.
    Having said all these, can anyone please enlighten on which codec to use, please? Thank you.

    Your going to see quality loss no matter what you use, especially if it's really good source. Compression does that....

    Try this thread, it gets pretty technical at the end but the first few posts are the important ones as far as your concerned.
