Hi Guys
I have a DVR-5100 and a DVR-520.
I want to get some recordings off of the 520 HDD as the DVD drive has failed so it has to go away for servicing*.
As I cant copy to DVD, Ive tried connecting the DV of the 520 to the DV of the 5100 but when I set the 5100 to record it just says "no tape in camcorder". Is there a way to bypass this and get it into record mode?
I may have to go the analogue route but hope I can do it digitally.
*The DVD mech no longer recognises any DVD disc saying "incompatible or unreadble disc". Ironically it'll still read CD's but I never use it for that. I use my hifi for CD's! Apparently this is quite a common fault. As expected the service centre cant guarantee they can preserve my recordings on the HDD - hence I need to copy the important ones before I send the unit back.
Thanks for any info.

To import DV video from something other than a camcorder, set the input of the recorder to DV but do not enter the DV menu. My Pioneer 510 recognizes the DV output from my Mac simply by choosing DV as the input.
