I need help with Audacity, I have downloaded all the Nyquist plugins and still have not been able to change pitch on a prerecorded MP3. If I changed the MP3 to wave would that let me change pitch on recording. Are there any guides on using Audacity, I have only found one, but it does not cover much. Thanks Foz

Try converting to wav, then highlight selection or song and go Effects/Change Pitch. I'm not sure how thorough the downloadable manual is, but join the mailing list & you can get plenty of answers to your questions.

What mattso said. If you haven't selected the audio file, (Edit>Select All) do that and the effects should all be available. Even with a tutorial, it takes a bit of playing with. If you mess it up, just go to 'Edit' and click 'Undo' and you can start over again.


EDIT: You should be able to work in MP3 format without converting to WAV. I don't do it that much, but as long as the effect menu is not grayed out, it seems to work. Just make sure you select the file.

(Edit>Select All) This enabled me to see the greyed out things in the Effects tab and I was able to make the pitch change. Thanks a bunch. Foz

Good deal! You might take a minute to thank the authors of the program. It's great to see freeware programs out there written by enthusiasts with little regard to financial reward. Encourage them if you can.
