Sory for long delay, I will have my hands on the DSP1424 very soon, and will let you all know how it goes. I haven't forgotten!

Alright - Just got my Behringer 1424 today. I've hooked it up and done a few test samples. So far, not so good. This device can add base, increase the volume, make the sounds deeper / wider, and other "neat" little tricks.

However, the reason I bought it was for the DeNoiser feature; that does not seem work as I had expected / hoped it to. Maybe, I need to experiment more with the device - I may still have to do a dual run for my audio treatment: HW restoration 1st, then a software restoration 2nd...

Here are some of my test results with this new unit...

The source was a NTSC VHS tape played on a JVC 9911U - (Stereo) Component / RCA output [Standard Cables]. The tape is 1st generation and is about 8 years old. The audio is being fed into my ATI All in Wonder Radeon, with MMC 9.09 in standard VCD video / audio format. I have a Chainech 7.1 channel audio card on that machine.

Their are 2 files in the RAR - The File size is 38.6 MBs - I included the video for effect, 2 seperate sound files were kinda boring.

1 sample is a raw feed, unedited going into the ATI capturing device directly from the VCR.

The other is going into my Behringer 1424 from the VCR and then into the ATI device. I played with the HW settings by using the de-noiser, bass maximizer, 3D effects, exciter, and volume maximer. I do not know this device perfect just yet, but you should be able to here the differences.

Thanks for posting your results. There's still too much hiss there, I was hoping the denoiser would cut it back a lot more.

I have my DSP1424 here too, just need to get it organised.

Yep, I agree. Thats what I stated a few posts up - when I got the device. I have the denoiser (feature) fully "cranked" up. Thats the best it can do with that source. It can do some other enhancements real time that I like, but to get rid of the hiss you would need to run in it through a software treatment next. Although, that would kind of defeat the purpose.

I just listened to it again with headphones instead of the stereo speakers, and it sounds like I miffed the stereo sound. Somewhere along the way, this got packed into 1 channel. I will have to investigate later.

Disapointing, but I will still use it in my media restoration chain.

    Anxious to hear your results...

Ricky D, yes I noticed your stereo was corrupted somehow. Just check your back connections, it "is" rather confusing the way they've arranged it.

I've briefly played around with the denoiser. You're right, it's a tricky bastard. I have managed to TOTALLY REMOVE hiss & noise, but so far at the sacrifice of the audio. Dialog drops in & out, like bad/slow compression or something (sorry I'm no techno-speak!).

I'm sure there's a fine balance. In fact, even the manual clearly states you must very carefully tweak the "sensitivity" range for optimum hiss reduction.

I'm not totally giving up yet... Just need to find more time to sit down & play around. I'll try to post some mp3 samples soon.
