When trying to go on some sites I get asked if I want active X and plugins to run. When I say 'OK' I get a message that Internet explorer has "encounted a problem and needs to close" It dosen't happen on every site just some, ie; www.putfile.com, www.nisis.com .I need to go on these two sites but can't. I have windows xp with SP2 and Norton Internet Security running and updated. I have tried enableing and disabling activeX and scripts etc but to no avail.
Any advice will be very welcome.
Cheers

ActiveX controls have a bad history of malware problems, and a lot of antivirus/security programs block them. I would suspect Norton is trying to block them, but not handling it too well and crashing IE. There are also adjustments in IE under Tools>Internet Options>Security>Custom Level.
I have my computers setup to block them all, but it will allow me to use them if I really want to. Never crashed IE, though.
Norton is OK for antivirus, but the Internet Security version never caused anything but problems, so I dumped it immediately.
If not, see if you can disable anything to do with ActiveX in Norton and let IE handle their installation and use. If you have the SP2 and it's always upgraded, there is little threat as long as you know exactly what kind and who the controls are being DL'd from and what they are for.
