hi, just purchased a 6600gt video card with 128mb. plays bf2 fine, but if i try to open up a shortcut on the desktop it dosen't open it up, the cpu usage goes up to 100% and the computer slows down dramatically. none of the programs appear on task manager so i can't shut them down but if i try to shut the computer down it says "can't shut down dvdshrink-do you want to end" and have to do it from there. i think it is an issue with the card as i had a radeon 9200se before this and had no worries at all- only upgraded as it wouldn't play bf2. actually as i type this i realised that i opened up bf2 as a shortcut but can't open anything else up. i run a xp2800+ with a gig of ram, windows xp mc with sp2. any ideas?. i downloaded the latest drivers from nvidia and installed them, didn't seem to make a difference. i have a soltek m/b

Download Nvidia Drivers 79.x (wait a while before you install the 80.x drivers - they need a bit of time to ripen) http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1231

Download Nasty File Remover (NFR) http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/1048363829/1

    1) Install NFR

    2) Uninstall your current Nvidia drivers from "add/remove programs"

    3) DON'T REBOOT yet. Run NFR and have it look for remnants of ATI and NVidia drivers. Have it delete those files. A few might not want to uninstall. No biggie.

    4) Reboot, (your system will go into 640 or 800 resolution). Install the above Nvidia drivers.

    5) Keep your fingers crossed.

Media Center also has its own specific video drivers for nVidia cards so you may want to be "updating" to the most recent version for MCE. Usually the regular XP ones work for MCE but I'm guessing it won't always be so.

Otherwise I can't see why video card drivers would cause shortcuts to hang. Something else must have become corrupted. Having ATi remnants on your computer while running an nVidia card may freak our your registry enough to cause that though.

Do as soopa says above and use the latest MCE drivers.
