Well so far I have had good luck with my current setup. Although I only rip the movie on backups (don’t like the menus) so that may be why I am still able to rip the newer stuff. I am using DVDDecrypter ver. 3.5.4.0 and have successfully ripped Stealth and Madagascar and I use DVD shrink 3.0 beta 5 to compress.

  3. Can some one please give a qiuck process how they use anydvd or dvd fab decrypter. I'm trying to backup brothers grimm. I used anydvd with dvd shrink and got the error. then i used the fab decrypter, and tried to back up with dvd copy. When i checked the backup it was not working right. can some please explain how to use fabdecrypter with dvd shrink.

    Thanks guys.

  4. yeh capp, I have to run file thru vobBlanker after fab and then shrink will work... but has anyone been able to backup The Cave? I've tried everything old and new. Dvd2avi,dvdrebuild, that one called ShrinkT5 with the .dll file...still nothing.. the only progress is with fab and reg decryptor but it only picks up extras and last 15min of movie. Any body out there know....tried all kinds of old stuff like IFOedit, even just tried old easy VCD just to have a bachup but vstrip won;t even strip all files. DVD Shrink is great and Decrypter too but there's been severl new movies unbackupable...lol we need a new tool for this new protection or ghost vob's or out of order/sequence and redundancy errors....blah blah ...so...so.....you smart people get to work for us dummies....later.

    Man, you got that right.

There are no DVDs that cannot be backed up, none that are even difficult to back up. It may surprise some people to hear that there are no DVDs that the supposedly "dead" DVDDecrypter cannot back up. Look here:

    http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?t=51810

And if creating a PSL (protected sectors list) file isn't easy enough, there's a plugin available for PGCEdit that automates the process:

    http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?t=56078

And as others have pointed out, lots of ways to rip besides the one I've suggested.

BTW, are any of those movies worth buying?

[EDIT] Before you resort to VobBlanker to clean up the "crap" left behind when decrypting an ARccOS disc, try FixVTS first. DVDShrink should then accept the files.

Yeah, i have thought for a long time it is hardware, as in not real good ripping drives, or other issues, as i have never had to do much to backup a dvd, and i have never even made a PSL or used anydvd, ect.
    P.S.
The cave was pretty good, not what i really expected, but it was alright :P

You may be right. And I've never needed anything besides freeware either. Done the PSL thing on ARccOS discs a few times, just to keep in practice. But even then I tested other methods and found it was easy to do the job any number of ways.

At any rate, the simplest method for a "problem" disc is the one Baldrick suggested at the beginning of the thread. And it's easiest for novices: Rip with DVDFabDecrypter (use the latest version available!), then open in DVDShrink. If Shrink chokes, process the files with FixVTS or VobBlanker. Try again with DVDShrink.

  8. Hello All,

Today for the first time, I tried to backup a DVD - The Cave - using DVD Shrink and noticed something strange. I ripped the DVD to the HD using DVDFab. Then using DVD Shrink, I tried to backup only the movie and not the entire disc. Normally, I grab the movie from the Main Title section but this time, there were 3 files in the Main Title section and each of them were less than 700 MB. When I copied one of the files, it wasn't the complete movie - which I figured because of the size. I also received a message about invalid structure. Any suggestions???

    thanks,

    Ronnie

  9. With DVDFab Decrypter 2.9.6.6 I got the same problem when trying to do movie only in shrink--four less than 200 MB files. Tried another rip of movie only--same thing.

Went back to 2.9.6.0 and it ripped fine and Shrink worked also. Had a similar problem with version 2.9.6.2 or 2.9.6.3 but he seemed to fix the earlier version. But the latest version doesn't seem to work with Shrink for me.

Haven't had a problem with any movie to date with LATEST version of DVDFabDecrypter. I have AnyDVD, LATEST version, sitting on the bench waiting for a call to come in if needed.

If the ripping stalls, check the DVD. The only time I thought I had problems it turned out to be a damaged/badly scratched DVD. (So back them up "a.s.a.y.p.t." as soon as you purchase them. That way they can't get scratched, the whole idea in the first place)

If rip is successful and burn fails try to play it on your PC with a media player. If you are able to view and hear all chapters your files should be OK. Your burn may fail for several reasons:

Hardware. Make sure you have enough HDD space. Drive error, download lastest bios.
Media. It is mass produced, some are messed up. Try another one then try a different brand.
Software. Get LATEST versions of Shrink and Decrypter. Get another reliable ISO converting and mounting program.

If all else fails......read on.... you are in the right place.

I have got a coppied version of Lost, the entire series. There are 7 disks and of these only 5 will work. Have tried unsuccesfully to burn using DVD Shrink, Decrypter and DecrypterFab. Has anyone been able to copy these discs, and if so how did you do it.

You mean only 5 of your 7 backup discs will work and you want to know if anybody has backed up Lost before ...

Thats about the size of it, yes

  14. I own LOST Season 1 and have successfully backed up all discs using DVD Decrypter and then DVD Shrink. Both of these tools, which are now discontinued, still work for most DVDs out there, including the new ones.

For the few that give DVD Decrypter issues (new Sony movies primarily), I use DVDFab Decrypter which, although a bit more simplistic than I'd like, seems to get the job done fine.

What movies have the so called, 'latest protection' ? I haven't had problems yet. Even ripped 'Sith' with Shrink, so when should I start worrying ? So Shrink has also secomed to the 'dark side' ?
Well ... best advice I can give you ... put your DVD movies up on a high shelf where the dogs can't get to them ... and if you have a cat too ... then you'll have to keep them where the cat can't knock them down ... for the dogs to chew on. Oh believe me ... I've found Betty walking around with a DVD disk in her mouth ...

Our pugs are cute dogs ... Betty loves to hop up on our bed and sleep on my pillow ... next to me / above my head ... but she don't get to stay there for very long ... especially when she starts to snore.

My wife was really happy when she came home with a new re-release of Stargate ... with added features ... [the original Stargate DVD was a flipper] ... but a week later ... our two wonderful and cute little Pugs ... Bandit and Betty ... decided the Stargate container case was a chew toy.

Thank god ... the DVD disk was located elsewhere.

As for what DVD movies have the latest protection ??? ... Well pop one in and see if DVD Decrypter can rip it ... if not ... then use the latest version of AnyDVD and CloneDVD2 ... this works for me.

    Hi,

I have a problematic DVD to rip, DVD Decrypter doesn't work.

Does AnyDVD + DVD Decrypter solve my problem or do I need to create a new PSL file ?

have you read this thread you posted to?
I am just a worthless liar,
    I am just an imbecil

  19. Silly question.

Using DVDFab is it possible to have the movie ripped into a folder using the movie name as the folder name? DVD Decrypter used to do this and it was nice because I could rip multiple movies to my drive and then run DVDSHrink and burn them later.

I hate to admit it but I am that lazy that DVDFab rips them to a folder called "DVD" and I'm to lazy to change the title myself.

When I try to change the name myself in the program (browsing to a folder) the encoding doesn't work.

  20. New Dnload of Nero corrupts dvdshrink. I just dnloaded the recent update to Nero 7.0 - don't remember the complete ver number. It installs InCD to run on bootup. That killed the ReAuthor portion of DVDShrink for me...it won't show the files in reauthor and locks dvdshrink up. I deleted InCD from starting during bootup to get shrink to work again. I finally implemented the DVD shrink to DVDecripter auto pass off...man I wish I would have know about this earlier. I always did it the hard way. Picking DVDshrink ISO transfer to auto start and burn in Decrypter is TOP NOTCH!

Hey there....so how do you make DVD TO DVD copies with this tool?
No harddrive saving of ISO file needed or if it does then it picks it up right away and copies it to DVD BLANK MEDIA...can it?
Is there any tutorials for this....so Far I found 2 free tools, DVD SHRINK 3.2.1 which works perfectly with IMGBURN, a good thing...quick process if you only COPY THE MAINMOVIE...but I am open to suggestions that are faster.

    Hi,

This last weekend I was trying to rip Bond's Casino Royale (a Sony disc) with DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink but I got no success; then with DVDFab Decrypter... no result al all.

I then tried it with one of the latest guides I found on the home page of videohelp.com (https://www.videohelp.com/guides.php?guideid=985#985) and... Yesssss! Successfully ripped!

So, try Ripit4Me (free) and follow the guide of this link; you got your DVD ripped for sure!

    Regards,

    Mário

so far i have been using..Anydvd and cloneDVD2 http://www.slysoft.com/en/download.html..and i am able to burn most of the movies except some of the sony movies..like casino royale..etc. other than that it's just awesome softwares..the good part about clonedvd is that it just rip ur dvd and once you get done burning..it's delete the backup of that movie itself..so u don't have to worry about to go and delete movie files..which we have to do in other softwares like..dvdshrink, dvdfab..etc..hope u guys will give try..

  26. In fact so far trying to get the main movie only (no menus), I do not have any problems using DVD Decrypter only...

  27. Eh, since so many people have trouble with "Casino Royale", I got it just to test the protection. It's a Sony-Columbia release.

RipIt4Me and DVDFabDecrypter (latest version!) have no trouble. It's not even necessary to run FixVTS after DVDFabDecrypter to clean up any left-behind junk, as sometimes happens. Reportedly AnyDVD works with it as well.

But manually creating a PSL for DVDDecrypter does NOT work, nor does the PgcEdit ARccOS plugin. I'm fairly certain the sheer complexity of the disc's structure has something to do with it. It has 99 titlesets.

Anyway, for fun I tried to find a workaround. If one uses DVDShrink 2.3 (note this is an old version), one need not open the VIDEO_TS.IFO. (Using DVD43, I opened the disc in PgcEdit to verify that the first titleset contains the main movie. I couldn't make any progress beyond that). So choose the VTS_01_0.IFO, OK the error message and continue. Reauthor, choose set start/end frames. For start, advance one chapter and manually reverse to just before the opening screen. For end, back up a chapter and step forward to just after the closing credits. Okay. This avoids the unreferenced junk at the beginning and end of the movie. Backup. Open the rip in DVDFab 0.17.1 (last freeware version) and create video manager (VIDEO_TS.IFO). Okay. Done. It's almost surprising it was so easy to find a workaround. No doubt others could come up with more.

I've been wrong before, but RipIt4Me is likely to be able to handle anything for a good while yet, even though development has ceased. DVDFabDecrypter seems to be more dependent on updating (for PSL files?), but so long as Fengtao keeps offering updates, Fab will be fine as well.

When I buy a movie, first thing I do is back it up and put the original in safekeeping. Even if I didn't do that, the unskippable adverts that are on many discs are so infuriating, I'd probably do it anyway. Why are SOme compaNYs so damned determined to prevent me from doing so? Besides, it's futile.

  28. You gonna be surprized that with DVD Decripter it gonna be even faster. Once you open it in IFO mode, simply deselect the cells in the first chapter that are incredibly short. How to find the duration? When you are in IFO mode in DVDD simply place tthe cursor upon the cell - it will show the duration and even more...
And pay attention to the chapters made of more than one cell. Usually you will find one in the middle - do not touch this, this is the layer break. But you can observe chapters with multiple cells at the end chapter - the same applies as at the first one.

I'll be darned. Hadn't thought of trying that. Proves the point though. Protection schemes are futile. :P

[EDIT] Good one. Thanks for that.
