Hi everyone. Long time reader, first time post.

I've got a DivX encoded avi that appears jerky with movements and panning. The avi is at 25 fps, and I played it on both the Philips 642 machine and my computer, both show herky movement. When run thru Virtualdub, I noticed that every third frame is missing, which accounts for the jerky movement.

Short of a re-encode from the original, I don't think there is any way to fix this, correct? Besides, why would the original encoder delete every third frame?

    Thanks!

It may have been converted from a 29.976fps NTSC file, in which case frame would have to be shed to come back to 25 fps. Jerky pans and zooms are a common side effect of software format conversions.

Oooooh, that's right. My brain is trained to go from PAL to NTSC. Makes sense. Thanks!
