Ive just compiled an uncompressed avi from adobe premiere pro 7.0 and i want to compress it so i loose as little quality as possible, when i compress with adobe premiere, the quality is okay but the aspect ratio changes and gives the video a black border.

I tried using virtualdub but the video codec is dvsd and apparently isnt supported by virtualdub

Could someone please give me some tips on a good conversion program or what im doing wrong with either adobe premiere and virtualdub?

    Thanks heaps

If the codec is dvsd, then you're outputting DV-AVI, and not "uncompressed". Try installing the Panasonic DV Codec then I think you'll be ably to open your file in virtualdub.
    If in doubt, Google it.

'dvsd' is a DV (AVI) codec. If you are using the DV format, you might want to DL the Panasonic DV Codec. VirtualDub works well with it and Type2 DV.

What is the source of your video? DV from a camera? DV is compressed, about 5:1. DV is about 13Gb an hour of video. Raw AVI will take up a whole more lot of space.

Finally, what do you want to compress it to? What do you want it to play on or do with it?

Try dropping the video on Gspot or AVIcodec. That will tell you quite a bit of info about it. Post a screen shot from one of those programs and it may be a little easier to answer your questions.

    EDIT:jimmalenko was a little faster.
