  1. I have just authored my first DVD with TDA. Woohoo!! The video and audio play fine so i was wondering if there is a way to check it will be in sync when i play it on my standalone dvd player before I burn it?

    Cheers Jim

burn a disc image of it on your hard drive. mount the disc image with Daemon Tools, then view it through your video player (Nero Showtime, WMP, VLC, et.).

sorry. i misread your question. there is no way to check if it will be in sync on your standalone player bfore you burn it. best to burn it first on a re-writable disc if you have doubts.

There is a difference between watching the source mpegs and watching the compiled DVD from your HDD. It is very rare for a burning app to ruin sync, so if it plays in sync from HDD after authoring, there it will (99.99 times out 100) play i sync on your player. What do you burn with ?

  8. it will always play in sync on your HDD mate caus it is capable of running at different speeds. I could have a out of sync dvd that would play on my computer caus the drive has different speeds whereas a standalone dvd player doesnt

Drive speed has nothing to do with sync. Once it starts playing it is either in sync or it is not. You don't play video at one speed and audio at another. If you author a disk and it plays in sync on your hard drive, it will play in sync once burned, assuming the burning app does not screw with the structure. Another good reason to create an ISO and burn with DVD Decrypter/Imgburn.

When you play back a DVD in your set top it plays at single speed. When you play it in your DVD burner it plays at single speed. When powerDVD reads it from your HDD it processes the data at single speed. Sync is a function of how of the audio and video are authored. If the audio is too short, an incorrect delay is used, or the source was badly converted (VBR MP3 is good for this) then you get sync problems. Occassionally they can come from the muxing process, but generally this is either because a poor muxing tool was used, or the source was corrupt. But it does not play back video at one speed and audio at another.

  10. So fron what your saying is when I have created my Audio_TS folder & Video_TS folder and play this from my HDD in PowerDVD it is the same as playing it on my standalone. This is the first time i have convert to dvd but in the past when i put them into mpeg1 format and played them PowerDVD they would be in sync burn them and play on standalone sometimes out of sync.

  11. I have a somewhat similar question. I have been using Nero Vision that came with Nero 7 to burn my DVD's. When I play the file on my hard drive it is in sync. However, when I play it on the standalone player or play the movie from the DVD on my computere it is not in sync. I have attempted to change the encoding quality in Nero Vision because the size is not extremely large so I could go with a Long Play quality instead of SuperLong Play but it ended in the same result.

I just wanted to add that I tried to write it to the hard disk also without actually burning it onto a dvd and still the same result. This leads me to believe that it is a software issue, so if anyone has any recommendations for better software please let me know. The only other thing I meant to mention earlier was that i have about 5 clips i am trying to put onto this disk and only a couple have issues when I try to burn it but those original files play fine on my computer.

Nero is fine for burning, but I wouldn't use it for encoding or authoring.

And Nero 7 seems to have more than it's share of problems. When they finally get past the 'beta' stage, it may improve.

TMPGEnc encoder and TMPGEnc DVD Author is what I generally use. There are other encoders and authoring programs in 'Tools' to the left. <<<<

If you have some problem videos, you would need to fix those first. If you are encoding them, MP3 VBR and AC3 audio could cause sync problems if not handled properly.
