is there any program that checks what codecs i have installed on my computer?

Or the 'old fashioned' way: Control Panel>Sounds and Audio Devices>Hardware. Scroll down to 'Video Codecs, Properties>Properties.
That will at least tell you what Windows thinks are your Video codecs.Audio codecs are also there.
