I live in North America and am mainly interested in Region 2 European British Musical Theatre titles such as "Jesus Christ Superstar 2000" starring Glenn Carter III and the May 2 release of "The Phantom of the Opera." I also own some Region 1 North American titles such as "Jekyll & Hyde" starring David Hasselhoff and "Passion of the Christ." I notice on larger DVDs such as "Jekyll & Hyde" and "The Phantom of the Opera" Disc 1, when I put the copies made from DVD Shrink in my Pioneer and both of my CyberHomes, they skip twards the end of the movies. What I don't understand is why "Passion of the Christ," a title technically similar to "The Phantom of the Opera" in audio/video specifications, plays perfectly in all my DVD players. Your thoughts, please? Thank you.

Usually if someone doesn't play well near the end of the movie, it's the media and not the software's problem.

Check these discs and make sure they look okay. No scratches, etc near the outside edge of the disc. Or run them through some software that checks for bad sectors that can't be read.

With my experience, if something doesn't play well near the end it's always going to be the media's fault.

What media did you use ? Cheap media doesn't need to be scratched to produce this type of problem. DVD Info Pro can do a couple of different tests to check the integrity of your back up. That some work but most don't doesn't really mean much. The difference between crap media and good media is that with crap, 1 in 100 work, and with the good stuff, 1 in 100 fail.

  4. and - another thought - -

A burner set to a particular average speed actually writes faster towards the outside rim of the media than the inner portions. So, if your media/burner combination is running right on the edge of its maximum burning speed capabilities - you can introduce problems towards the end (ie. outer edge) of the burn. It has happened to me and slowing down the burn speed for that particular media brand/type solved the problem.
So - consider slowing down your recording speed to something midway in the speed rating of your burner and media. If you are working with 8x media on a 8x burner - try burning at 4x to see if that helps.

  5. Also remember not to use adhesive labels as they can cause problems when playing back DVD's near the end of the movie.
Also make sure (As already mentioned) to use GOOD media and not crap, its VERY important!
Writing at slow speeds is also important and finally use a recommended tool for burning the DVD.DVDDecrypter is better than Nero with DVDShrink.

What alias is Gurm under now ?

Generally this is caused by media. Just media. Occasionally other factors such as DVD Player heat problems, sticky labels, DVD Writer laser on the way out or even just crap conversion/authoring software may contribute to these problems.

Easiest fix is to try a new media code - check out https://www.videohelp.com/dvdwriters and see which codes are reported to work well with your burner, then locate those DVDRs. Also check out https://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia .

A workaround is to set DVDShrink to output somewhere between 4000 and 4200MB, because it is generally just in the out 5% or so that the quality of some DVDRs really fall away, and using the "best" part of the disc may or may not reflect this.
    If in doubt, Google it.

You guys are great! Using DVD Shrink, from my purchased copies, I reripped the titles giving me trouble and then burned them to Philips DVD+RW using Roxio Easy CD/DVD Creator 6 Creator Classic and they played fine all the way through them. So then I burned them to Fuji DVD-Rs and they played perfectly. So I guess that previous spindle of Fuji DVD+Rs was from a bad batch or something. Also, I didn't have to use slower recording speeds and/or DVD Shrink's slower analysing techniques and in a timely manner, I was able to successfully make modified copies of my DVDs. Thank you all so much!
