  1. I have a Sanyo DVD recorder but without the remote control and apparently you need this to "finalize" the finished DVD. Has anyone used a universal remote with a Sanyo DVD recorder?
The replacement remote is expensive and I thought I would cover all the alternatives first.
    Thanks

I would look at getting one of the remotes that have a learning capability to them. I bought this Sony because the ILO recorder remote I have is small and a piece of Junk.

  3. I just want one that works.
The popular universal remotes "all in one" and Philips don't have codes that work with the menu function of a DVD recorder, they just work on certain buttons such as play, titles, etc.
I looked at the "learning capability sony" but still not convinced it would work for a sanyo DVd recorder and handle menu functions where I could "finalize" a DVD disc.

  4. Some feel that a universal remote with learning is great and it is. I have one and use it for basic functions. to save ware and tear on the orig. everyone should have an Original remote if possible.

Check this site there are others.

  5. But with the "learning" remotes it seems you need the original to copy the codes! I would like something that already has the codes in it to access the special menu. All the universal ones don't seem to work. www.remotes.com has the original but for $40, I would like to get one cheaper!

Correct with a learing remote you need the original
Some remotes may have the code for your unit but a number of functions may not be available or on different buttons.
$40 is high, there are other suppliers, You need to do a search for DVD Remote
Sanyo is almost exclusely sold by WalMart. If you didn't purchase it there, tell them you did, lost the reciept and manual. broke the remote, and need to purchase another. They will most likely help. Sanyo should be able to supply one at less than $40.

PS I have an ilo DVDRHD04 The original works just fine. I purchased a new remote for it for $9.50 + #3.00 shipping because I wanted it . I've been through this remote problem before. I have an old Radio Shack 15-1994. It's built like a tank and will outware most others. It is a 6 device learning unit. I use this on 5 different devices for major functions only, because like most the buttons do not match.

    Get an Original
