I am wondering what you experts on video converting do to an avi fie to make sure its bob on. first time. I'm fed up of the audio being really quite or not in sync properly, jerky video.

TONS of guides on the subject are here. Hundreds of factors are involved.
Of course we all want our videos to be "bob on".
Just what exactly is a bob?No DVD can withstand the power of DVDShrink along with AnyDVD! -
I was interested to know if it was best to extract the audio from the video first and then encode it?
Aint a bob a thing in a girls hair -
Many factors to consider. If you have a capture device that locks the video and audio signals while capturing, and you have your system set up correctly, you should be able to capture with no sync issues. Like the above posters say, there are many things that can effect this.
