.nsv are Nullsoft video files. There is an encoder called nsvtools.exe at www.nullsoft.com/nsv/ but not sure if its backward compatible as its mainly aimed at encoding TO .nsv format. Worth a look anyway. Also suggest you start with Winamp as these files are associated with them.

    for starters.

May also try a VP3 enoding search as the video tends to be VP3 and audio Mp3-possible demuxer could be coolbeans.exe. This is as much as i know-apologies could not help further.

Baldrick and Guns1inger know much more than me so give them time to count all those 'o's and i'm sure they'll post back with a more definitive answer.

mencoder should work. Not tried it myself though. It supports the nsv container, VP3,5, etc. video, can encode to avi and mpg.

I've tried only on NSV files which contained VP62 video and AAC audio, and successfully converted them to XviD/MP3. I first demuxed the NSV file using NSV Demuxer (NSVD.exe must be used within a dos prompt window) and ended up with one video file and one audio file. I then used SUPER, which uses mencoder internally, to convert the video into XviD and I think I actually used GraphEdit to convert the AAC file to wave and then BeSweet to convert the wave to MP3. Lastly I muxed the video and audio back together using VirtualDubMod. While searching for a way to do this I did read somewhere that if the VP video contains any errors NSVD.exe will not demux properly and I couldn't find any way to fix it. Hope this helps. 8)

mencoder -ovc xvid -xvidencopts bitrate=900 -oac mp3lame input.nsv -o output.avi should work and would be more direct.

Mencoder alone was one of the first methods I tried, but was ending up with audio/video sync problems. Demuxing the audio and video and then remuxing after seperate conversion was the only way I could find to avoid the sync issue.
