can someone who knows DVD-LAB well tell me what is the easiest subtitle format to add to DVD-LAB, AND how the subtitle stream can be got from original DVD disc. thank you for the help
PS: please do not suggest rejig or dvd decrypter to demux, DVD-LAB REFUSES to accept SUP or SUB files from both these apps.

I've only tried with SubRip (.srt) subs. Ripped from backup of original DVD disc. I don't think it's possible to rip subs straight from an encrypted disc.
