  1. OK, so the issue has become:
Must find out the activation code for my installment of WinXP. CD lost. Never had a manual (they sent me the CD after Windows ME got chewed up by a virus).-

  3. But won't that erase everything on the FAT32 harddrive? >_>'
EDIT: Apparentely not. New question: What is this setup program? Is it built into WinXP (probably) and if so, how do I access it?

EDIT2: NVM, found it, did it. Now I've gotta find my stupid code >_>'. It demands I verify within 3 days.

Correct. Windows XP if you have not verified your authenticated activation within 365 days or have added new hardware to your machine since last activation you are required to reactivate your windows license. You can do so via a web transaction that takes less than a minute or call the microsoft 800 number and give them your information. Basically it's an anti-piracy measure we all have to deal with. There should be an activation icon on your desktop or in your start menu. Click this to activate your windows. You may still be required to call the 800 number if your hardware configuration has changed drastically since the last activation of your genuine windows install. You only need your license code/CD key when calling Microsoft. The Web check is automatic.

Failure to activate results in windows not loading and attempting to load it after those 72 hours will bring up a window saying windows can not verify your license and is shutting down. Basically, your windows machine is dead until you reactivate it.

  6. Oh great. And I can't find the stupid Windows XP CD I had to use to reinstall my CPU after it crashed majorly (I used to have Windows ME).

And the code on the side of my machine has been rendered useless apparentely.

How did you run the setup without your windows XP CD? In any case the activation code is also available on the inside cover of your OS Manual. The code on the side of your machine is probably for the Windows ME installation.

  8. I can't find the manual either. I simply went into DOS and typed in convert C:/ FS:NTFS or whatever I typed in. And voila!

Is there any program to find out the code for your installation if you've lost both the CD AND the manual (come to think of it, I don't even recall them sending me a manual).

EDIT: I called their toll free number and managed to get an ID.
