  1. Greetings all,
First time posting here..just starting to dip my toe in the waters.

My first problem.: I have a brand new BenQ 1640, haven't used it yet. I"m trying to copy a non-copy-protected DL DVD. Unfortunately, I keep getting the same message in Nero Recode 2, DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink. In each program it stalls at the 52% point in the analysis and says" Failed to read from the file VTS_01_4.VOB Data error (cyclic redundancy check)"

Is there anything I can do about this and how do I do it? Do I need to provide any more info?
    All ideas much appreciated.

You have errors on the disk. You can use DVDDecrypter in ISO Read mode, under sttings be sure to set "ignore read errors" and set read retries to 0. You can then use decrypter ISO Write to burn to disk.

  3. Hi,
I finally got an opportunity to try your suggestion ZippyP wth DVDDecrypter, twice in fact, but with no success. I adjusted the settings as suggested and both times, it hangs at the 50% mark, , the read errors start climbing and the read speed drops to 0-1kps. I let it run for 3 hours but the only result was 4000 read errors. It does seem to be reading the file but at a few kb at a time.
Is there any way around this. Is there another way to get past this mark?
    thanks for any help/ideas.

I totally agree Baldrick,ISOBuster is outstanding when ripping DVD's with defects. Its the only tool that can successfully rip them.

  7. I'm using ISOBuster to try and extract the session1 file (i.e. the whole dvd) right now. Sure enough, as the 50% point it asked me what to do with the read error. I told it to fill the space with zeros. There's nothing in the help files on this, have I done the right thing or should I start over and choose another setting. The extraction process slowed right down to virtually a dead stop. Apologies for the haplessness, but this is all new to me...

Search to the ISO\UDF structure of the disk and select all the VOB's ect....(All the DVD Files),when you reach the erronous part it should give you the option to ignore the sector.Select to ignore ALL bad sectors and let ISOBuster carry on ripping. It WILL be slow but it WILL finish the job in the end. When it gets past the erronous section of the DVD you will notice that the ripping gets faster and faster.
Just be patient and it will rip the DVD in the end.
You may notice on playback, about 50% through that the video is blocky and messed up.You can decide to put up with it or use an editor like VideoRedo to cut that part out.The Nav structure will probably be messed up though so may need to re-author.

  9. Thanks for the suggestions. I had let the program run all night, but with the setting selected "fill all errors with zeros" before I read your advice This was based on the what the help section at the Isobuster website suggested. It did evetually finish this AM, but it has 9838 read errors.

My question, before I try what laspis59 suggests (and thanks for your help!): Is this a lot of errors for a 7 GB disc and did I make the right choice for the setting or should I do it over again with the "ignore all errors" setting if I want to go ahead and try and cut that part out? Its a concert disc and I don't know if I'll be cutting out a big chunk of it or not.
    cheers

I have had a couple of errors as you have described and came to the conclusion the problem is associated with the layer change. The 2 problems I had were not associated with damaged discs, the discs played perfectly up to where I believed the layer change to be.

One of the discs failed to read chapter 21, I then skipped chapter 21 and went to chapter 22 and the disc played the rest of the movie without any problems. On that disc I believe the layer change was at chapter 21.

This problem has only ever presented itself to me on 2 recent occasions, on both occasions I used the option in DVD Decrypter not to reads errors and ended up the exact the same result as you.

  12. Thanks for all the tips. I took the suggestion and used Dvdfabdecrypter and it successfully copied the files to an audio_ts folder and a video _ts folder in a fairly short time (<3 hours) with no errors noted. (Doesn't seem to be anything in the audio folder though...)

(Another!) question:Should I now use Decrypter to burn to a DVD+R DL as ISO write and will it also include the audio? I also have Nero Ultra 6 (with all updates).
    thanks all,
    D.

You can't burn the folder with dvd decrypter. But you can create an iso with imgtools classic that you can burn dvddecrypter.

ANd read my sticky topics in the future... https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=283172

    To clarify:

    - The AUDIO_TS is empty, that's normal. Yes your video will have sound, it's in the VOB files along with the video.

    - An ISO is a disk image, since you didn't make an ISO with DVD Decrypter (using ISO read) you can do what Baldrick suggests and use imgtools to make one instead.

    - If you want to burn to a single layer disk you can use DVDShrink on the files on your hard drive.

    Hope that helps.
