  1. Hi there, I have a Zonet KVM switch to, of course, switch between my 2 pcs using one set of devices (keyboard, mouse and monitor). The problem is that the mouse is sometimes unresponsive when switching from one pc to the other. The reason for this is apparently due to the fact that its a USB mouse using a ps/2 adapter. That is according to the manurfacturer. The only work around I have found is switching back and forth from one pc to the other until the mouse is responsive for the pc I want to use. A nuisance of course.

I have tried to contact KVM, but have not heard from them. Other than getting a standard PS/2 mouse (which I don't want to do because I love the mouse that I use) does anyone know of some work around for such a silly problem?

I have a Belkin 2-port KVM switch, using a Logitech USB marble mouse with the PS/2 adapter, and I do not have the problem you mention about the unresponsive mouse.

One thing you could try is to get hold of a PS/2 mouse and test the unit using it, to make sure that it is not a problem with the actual KVM switch istelf.

I suspect the USB/PS2 interface also. I have that problem with my laptop and a Qtronix USB mouse. A PS2 mouse is always there. The USB converted mouse has occasional glitches and the OS doesn't see it. Unplugging it and plugging it back in always works. Likely a detection problem with the OS.

I had a problem with my LINKSYS KVM switch when I used a LOGITECH wireless keyboard & mouse. The keyboard was fine but the mouse wouldn't work but I did find a patch from the LOGITECH site and it's ok now. I've tried using a BELKIN, & TRENDNET KVM switches but the video quality on 1 pc was always blurred even after adjusting the DPI settings. LINKSYS is the only 1 that worked for me. I've bought my LINKSYS KVM switches from Ebay.

I picked up two IOGear USB switches for work and they work pretty well. They accept USB keyboards/mice and the HD15 cable for analog monitors. I actually don't use the monitor cables since my monitor has selectable DVI inputs so the clarity is far better but it's nice for my USB mouse and keyboard to retain all the extended functions of each. And it consolidates the two devices down to a single USB connection for the PC so it acts as a USB hub as well. In addition it can also accept two more USB devices such as flash drives, printers, or hard drives so that they are shared between both PCs when you use the switch as well. Of course you need to be careful switching between USB storage devices as you could interrupt its read/write, and it's best to run them on XP or OSX so that you don't get messages about unsafe removal of devices and such. I got them on NewEgg for $75 each.

I've got a Belkin 2 port PS2 KVM and it doesn't like anything USB through a USB -> PS2 adapter. I've got a wireless KB and mouse just sitting there gathering dust
    If in doubt, Google it.

    Afternoon computer geeks

Everyone seems to be using various forms of KVM switching.. and two
seems to be the what most are using.. including me

I have an iVIEW KVM model, for my two pc's - it's enough for my
    needs.

I had this same problem as 1st poster tsantsa 's. but, in my case,
I would loose my keyboard (my mouse and kydrd are usb converted) ..

And, the problem releaver for my situation was to always start my 1st
pc (the one that I am always using) and then, if I need to use my
other pc, I would turn it on. And, I could switch back and forth
between the two with no problems (Ctrl+Ctrl+1/2) You have to be sure
that you set up the 1 and 2 order to the main pc that you will be
using most of the time, and let that pc be the #1 pc that starts up
    first.

Since I don't often use my other pc for major or majority of things,
it doesn't really matter all that much. Either way, this alternative
works out very well for me.
