I am trying to make a DVD with Miscellaneous clips on it. The last problem I am having is trying to blend a couple 4:3 tracks with a mostly 16:9 compilation. I am currently using TEMPEngc DVD Author and it tells me it won't work. I have tried using Mero Express to cheat a little, but it messes up some of the editting I do buy cutting everything into titles as opposed to leaving them as chapters. Any suggestions?

    Thanks - Lockheede

You can encode the 4:3 stuff as 16x9 to start with ... that way they can be on the same TRACK in TMPGEnc DVD Author.

The only problem with this is while the 4:3 stuff will look normal on a 16x9 TV it will look "odd" on a 4:3 TV.

Take a look at this old thread: CLICK HERE

That would be the way to do it I think.

I can totally live with that. What program would I use to encode into 16:9? I am using DVDShrink to rip to the hard drive and edit the pieces...

Well you have to re-encode to make a 4:3 video a 16x9 video.

So you need a MPEG-2 encoder.

The easiest to use (with built-in resizing which you will need) is TMPGEnc Plus.

What about changing the aspect ratio with DVDPatcher on one of your files to 'fool' TDA into thinking all is ok and then 'patching' back to original aspect ratio???? This works with PAL & NTSC on same disc but not sure if it works with just the aspect ratio; (save a lot of time having to re-encode again).
Anyone know if the above will work?

I don't see how that would work. The image would be distorted I think.

Yes i see what you're saying-it is possible that it will be all distorted and i understand why you say that. However, as TDA isn't really resizing anything but merely being 'told' via the 'patch' that all legitimate files on the track to output are compliant, then it may be 'fooled' into working. It was just a thought as a bit of a work round.

I'll give it a try on a couple of samples and see what happens-will post back with results.

I did use DVDPAtcher on it, and it didn't take. I did however have a problem with a few actual 16:9 clips that TMPEng told me were 4:3, and DVDPatcher fixed them right up.

    Dvdauthorgui for menu creation or

If you have a complete menu already , in dvd format , load it into pcgedit , then import those video's (dvd format) .

Pcgedit can deal with both with no problems
