Is there a program which will check a system and make sure that the codec's for VCD playback have been loaded correcly?

And if not find suggest where to get them and install them?

I have tried all the hints here to get MS-MediaPlayer Ver7.1 to play VCD created with 'NERO' and keep getting a not supported format error!?!

But what codecs and versions should I be looking for and if they are not there where does one start looking for the device drivers and getting them installed?

PowerDVD plays... but I have tried to watch a VCD on two other non-DVD-ROM computers that do not have PowerDVD and the VCD fails on both of them! All three systems have MS-Media Player V7.1 running Win98SE

  4. Install the MPEG2 Codec that can be found on the Tools section of this site. Surely it will play VCD's after that.

    Been there and done that....

It seems that it is the format used by NERO to create the photo VCD as MediaPlayer will play a true MPEG file such as the demo that can be downloaded from this web site.

  6. Go to the tools section and install the Nimo Codec pack.

Chances are that whatever codec you are missing is in there...

Before I go adding more codec's to my system.. if you use NERO create a quick PHOTO VCD and tell me if you can view the created disc with MS-MediaPlayer first... I have a feeling that alot of the suggestions are coming from well meaning folks that have not tried the cure themself.

You see I have a 'Test' system that is a 'FRESH' install of Win98SE and has been fully updated from the Windows update web site and the 'Test' system will not play back these NERO created PHOTO VCD's.. but will playback 'MOVIE' VCD's
