I'm sure this question has been asked 1000's of times, but I'm new and my search of this forum came up empty. So here goes...

Can anyone give me a list of dvd-players that will play dvd-data discs with mpeg2 files (video and audio)?

Further explanation: I receive disks that have one or more interviews that are on dvd-data discs in mpeg2 format. They have not been "authored" so there are no menus, etc. I'd like to leave them in that format because I find it easier to edit the files if I need to and I don't have to take the time to convert them into dvd-video discs (which can take several hours using uLead MovieFactory). But, for ease of use, I need the discs to play on standard dvd-players rather than on a computer.

    Suggestions?

There are not many DVD players that will play mpg2 files but check out the 'DVD Players reports' on the home page of this site.

One suggestion would be to use TMPGenc DVD Author. If the mpg2 files are compliant DVD files, then you could author them using TDA. TDA will not re-encode. A 4GB mpg2 file takes 20-25 minutes to author in TDA and another 15mins or so to burn. You can also add a menu with thumbnails for each video.

    Thanks for the quick replys.

I really need to avoid authoring if at all possible. Not only because of the time issue, but I also have a verification issue as well (darn rules of evidence).

I think I need to research this DivX-compatable player idea - I tried the player finder and only came up with a couple of combo units (another requirement of my application). I think I'll turn a couple of vendors loose with that spec and see what they can come up with.

    Again, thanks.
