I often wonder who bought out the PVC facilities. It has to be either Sony or Taiyo Yuden.

This might be a bit off topic, but several years ago, a friend from Taiwan introduced me to the president of a Taiwanese dvd manufacturer. I remember the incident for two reasons. First, the guy showed up at my place with his mistress in tow. Second, I had convinced my friend to buy a house the previous year, and now he was berating me because that investment tied up his cash so he could not invest in this guy's new dvd company.
My impression was that the company fortunes depended entirely on this president's ability to sell and cajol purchasing agents to try his product since they had no technology to speak of. They had their product on Fry's shelves under private label. They closed their doors this year and the president's new job is to liquidate their equipment which consisted mostly of presses they purchased from Germany.
P.S. I understand the all the investors lost money including the president and that the president is considering a new career as a noodle shop proprietor in Taiwan. Meanwhile, my friend's house went up in price $250K so no more complaints from him. -
