Does anyone know of a program or plugin that can add the timecode to a video? Hopefully a plugin that'll work in virtualdub, but anything would be much appreciated.

    Hi Explorer_Bob,

Can you be more specific on what "a video" is? You're subject says a "video file" - but what type?

Use GSpot (v2.52 beta) or AVICodec on the file and post details.

It's just a standard AVI file. Divx 5 video and LAME MP3 audio. 720x480 resolution. 29.97fps.

You'll come to find that there's no such thing as "a standard AVI file" - think of AVI as just a container for video and audio, both of which can be encoded using a variety of different codecs: Divx, Xvid, DV, Uncompressed, WAV, MP3 etc.

It's a shame it's not an original DV AVI - the timecode is contained in the file and can be extracted and used by a number of tools. I don't know about Divx.

From its descripton, DVdate might do the trick.

  5. At work I've done this in After Effects, there is a built in number generator that can be set to follow the timeline TC. Of course this is not the ideal tool, but a solution if you really need it to be done.

Do you want video time codes (such as SMPTE codes - HH:MM:SS;FF), or time-of-day displayed on screen?

Try using AVISynth with "ShowSMPTE" command...

Thanks everyone for your help. The studio plugin works great, and there's also a version of it available for VirtualDub.
