Total newb here. Love the site!

I'm working with a 40-minute, 8.3GB avi file captured from DV camera. Converted to DVD mpeg (m2v right?) using DIKO took about 3 hours to get a 2.3GB m2v file. Diko all-in-one solution didn't work for me so I went to ffmpeggui to encode audio to ac3, and tpmgenc dvd author 1.6.

Following basic and advanced guides on afterdawn.com I think I was able to author a DVD. I added 17 chapters and created a motion menu. Then went to output and burned directly using the writing tool.

I guess I should've known something was up when the output took only 4 minutes. Anyway, the finished DVD runs on my player. I get a really cool motion menu but when I press "play" I get about one second of video and then back to the menu.

Any idea where I'm screwing up?

    Thanks!

Tried it on PC - PowerDVD - same results: perfect motion menu and no play. Only a split second flash of the opening scene no matter which chapter is selected. Then back to the menu. Has anyone experienced this?

I really think the problem is within TPMGEnc DVD Author. I tried the same project with no menu and the output phase took less than a second.

Been away from this project for a while but I thought I'd update B and anyone else interested.

The original capture was done through an integrated firewire on my audigy sound card. I read somewhere here that it could cause problems, so I shelled out for a dedicated firewire card and did a new capture. It seemed to do the trick.

Now I've got the full video....but no sound. Haven't been able to spend time on this issue yet but hoping it's a more documented problem.

    Thanks B
