  1. We have had a lot of posts about problems with Dual Layer Burning, so I just thought I would post a success story.

    Movie: Batman Begins

DVD Burner: Benq 1620 firmware B7W9

    Steps:

    1) Ripped with DVDFab Decrypter
    2) Iso created with ImgTools
    3) Fellowes Blank label affixed to Verbatim DL Blank disc
    4) Scanned image imprinted on blank label using Pixma IP4000 as described in https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=281187&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0
    5) Image burned at 2.4x using Imgburn

Backup disk plays in Pioneer, Sony, Zenith and Samsung brand DVD players with no layer break issues or playback problems whatsoever.

    Yeah!!!

    Congratulations

Maybe when my single layer 4x burner dies I'll upgrade to dual. Though I've had my burner for three or four years and its doing great (microadvantage and I'm what I consider a "moderate" user when it comes to burning blanks).
Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?

  3. I am still being cautious about using dual-layer discs. We don't know if they will last as long as single-layer, especially for people archiving digital photos/home movies. Did you scan your discs for C1 and C2 errors? I am curious how many of these errors are present on a dual-layer disc.

  4. I presume you had this setting: Tools -> Settings -> Write -> Options -> Layer Break (for DL media) -> Calculate Optimal. Or did you just keep everything, and the layer break flag as well?

Haven't done many and am unclear on two points:
    1) Does the "calculate optimal" option result in a smooth layer change?
    2) No question that DVDFabDecrypter correctly preserves the layer break flag? Maybe a silly question.

The few I've done were with DVDDecrypter, ISO Read -> ISO Write, no problem.
    Pull! Bang! Darn!

  5. Wile E: What software should I use to test for C1/C2 errors?

I am attaching a JPG of the Nero CD/DVD test results nero.jpg

Fritze: I used the "calculate optimal" setting. I don't know exactly how DVD Fab Decrypter handles the layer break but I am using default settings.

    Layer change was almost imperceptible.

  6. hrm....just a question.

how much did you pay for the dual layer disc? if the price is similar to the retail, then there's really not much point. last i checked, retail batman begins=$15.

o..and if you plan on making a copy of the bonus disc as well, then you would need another DL disc.
