Hi,
I have a 'Winfast TV2000 XP RM' capture card and whenever I try to capture videos from my vcr, or any other device that's connected to my capture card, the audio only comes out of one speaker (i've tried connecting my dvd player, and i've even tried using different audio cables). Even when I'm not capturing, it's only coming out of one speaker.
The problem is not with my speakers because everything else works fine. From my VCR, I have the audio out red and white cables plugged in and the other end goes into my sound card's "Line In". But it only seems to come out in the right speaker.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thankyou![]()

Does the plug that goes to your sound card look like either of these?
It should look like the lower one. -
If you reverse the red and white connectors at the VCR does the sound come out the other speaker?
-
Is it possible the end that's plugged into the sound card isn't in all the way? Sound from only one channel is the symptom of that (or the wrong connector which we've already ruled out).
-
Do you have an equalizer/sound program running? If so, you might have the left channel muted, or turned all the way down. Also look in the Windows "Sound and Audio Devices" (in the control panel)...make sure you are setup as a stereo setup, not mono.

If reversing the red/white connectors causes the sound to come out the opposite speaker the implication is that the VCR (or whatever playback device you're using) is only outputing audio on one channel.
-
No. When I swap the red/white cables, it still comes out of that SAME one speaker. I've tried different cables and different vcrs/dvd players and still. It comes out of the right speaker.

So then, your own troubleshooting shows one channel of your
amplifier or the speaker itself on that channel is at fault!
The only other explanation involves a faulty channel in the PC SOUNDCARD itself (much less likely) -

If your sound card has another input (mic? internal line in?) try using that. -
I for one would open the PC and reseat the Capture card in the PCI slot at this point

I just decided to get with the programe and buy a dvd recorder, should have bought it months ago, Sony RDR-HX510, one has to move on i suppose.
Now my tapes should be changed in no time. Thanks for the advice and help. We're Bought and Sold

Thanks, I'll try to reseat the capture card and have a look at the sound card, and any other sound settings on the pc.

If your motherboard has an on-board audio module, it wouldn't hurt to disable that as well.
