Some of the videos on my pc have really low sound - i have to put my speaker volume up really high to listen to them - but my speakers start to crackle then!

Is there anyway i can make the audio on the videos permanently louder? i tryed using virtual dub - but i didnt have a clue what i was doing + it wouldnt open one of the video files saying this:

"Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'XVID' (unknown)

VirtualDub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) comptaible codec to decompress video. Directshow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable.

So is there anyway i can permanently increase the volume on these videos? i will be burning a few of them on dvd to save space so i need them loud rather than just use a program to make it loud when using the pc.

ac3filter will only increase the volume when you play it on your computer.

you can use goldwave to make it permanently louder.

Hi mate thanks for the help - goldwave worked a treat however i still cannot open the video file giving an error message saying

"Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'XVID' (unknown)

VirtualDub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) comptaible codec to decompress video. Directshow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable.

is there any other program i can use to remultiplex the video with the new sound.mp3?
